Lights, Camera, Action: Coming Up in 2026
2025 was a fab year for film - director Paul Thomas Anderson made a staggering return with award-season favourite One Battle After Another; The Minecraft Movie scored the biggest opening weekend of the year, and horror dominated cinemas with the release of Weapons, Bring Her Back and the highly acclaimed, gut-busting Sinners.
Here's some of the cinema highlights coming up over the next six months.
JANUARY

Hamnet
This tragedy based on Maggie O'Farrell’s beloved novel has finally hit UK cinemas. Starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, it tells the story of Agnes Shakespeare, wife of the famous bard, and their son Hamnet, whose untimely death will become the inspiration behind the enduring masterpiece, Hamlet.
Release date: 9th January
The Bone Temple
Shot back-to-back with last year’s 28 Years Later, it’s the fourth instalment in this grisly, post-apocalyptic saga. Expect more naked zombies and too many characters named Jimmy.

No Other Choice
A paper company employee goes to desperate lengths to get the job he thinks he deserves. New from director Park Chan-Wook, this film is perfect for those who like their satire with a side of bloodshed. Paper has never been so deadly.

Nouvelle Vague
One for the film buffs, director Richard Linklater’s newest film depicts the making of Breathless, a 1960 feature considered to be the first in French New-Wave cinema. Shot in black and white, this is shaping up to be Avengers: Assemble for fans of new wave directors.

FEBRUARY
Wuthering Heights
Valentine's Day seems the perfect release date for a timeless romance like Wuthering Heights - if it weren’t for all the incest and violence. Already steeped in discourse, this new adaptation from Emerald Fennell has drawn attention for its lack of historical accuracy and questionable casting, however there is sure to be more to this version than meets the eye. If 2023’s Saltburn is anything to go by, this will be far from a classic retelling.

If I Had Legs I'd Kick You
A stressful and anxiety-inducing journey through the life of a struggling mother, Rose Byrne’s formidable performance anchors this rollercoaster of a film. Best watched in a double bill with last year’s Die My Love for maximum psychological damage.

MARCH
The Bride!
In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein’s monster asks his creator to make a companion for him, resulting in ‘the Bride’, who is far beyond what either of them intended. Starring powerhouse performers Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, it's shaping up to be an exciting and original release from Maggie Gyllenhaal, who directs her second feature after her Oscar-nominated debut, The Lost Daughter.

Project Hail Mary
A school science teacher wakes up on a spaceship lightyears from home and must prevent the sun from dying, with help from an unlikely companion. Based on the book by The Martian author Andy Weir, this film has something for everyone - comedy, science and Ryan Gosling.
Release date: 20th March
APRIL
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The sequel to 2023’s record-breaking Super Mario Bros Movie; Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach return to face off against their newest adversary. Just when they thought they'd seen the last of their spiky enemy, along comes his son, Bowser Junior.
Release date: 3rd April
Mother Mary
Thriller? Musical? Psychosexual drama? This upcoming feature from David Lowery has been billed as all three. Starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, the story follows pop icon Mother Mary as she is reunited with her estranged best friend, and old wounds are reopened.
Release date: 24th April (in the US; UK release date not yet confirmed)
MAY
The Devil Wears Prada 2
Think you didn’t want a sequel? Oh, don’t be ridiculous, everybody wants this. Reprising their roles 20 years after the original are Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and of course, Meryl Streep. Although this film’s development has moved at a glacial pace (you know how that thrills us), it’s finally strutting onto our screens this spring.
Release date: 1st May
Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu
After hit series The Mandalorian brought Pedro Pascal and Baby Yoda together, the beloved duo are heading on a classic Star Wars adventure, directed by Jon Favreau.

JUNE
Disclosure Day
A star-studded cast and a UFO theme is all we really know about Spielberg’s latest film. Based on an original idea by Spielberg himself, Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth and Colman Domingo are just a few of the big names attached to this mysterious project.

Toy Story 5
In the newest instalment of this much-loved franchise, Woody and friends come up against a brand new adversary that is capturing eight-year-old Bonnie’s attention like nothing else - an iPad.
