Bold, geometric patterns ooze retro charm. Some houses have gone all-in, completing the look with modular furniture and avocado bathrooms, whereas others have opted for a more subtle feel, with pops of colour here and there. Intricate floral designs give a vintage, refined look, whilst larger, brighter feature walls perfectly capture that 70s vibe.

Designers sometimes refer to the ceiling as the ‘fifth wall’ to highlight its importance as a design feature, rather than something to be forgotten about. These houses have all made the ceiling into an important aspect of the room, drawing the eye upwards and making the space feel more complete. Wallpapering with the same pattern as the walls can give a room a cosy, immersive feel, whereas painting it with a contrasting colour can lend it more height and depth.
