Fundamentally, Scandi design is about beautiful things that make life better. Emerging from the Art Nouveau movement in the early 20th century, the style embraced traditional crafts, natural materials and attractive functionality. High quality, well-designed furnishings that could be mass-produced was the key principle of the movement - rather than keeping their products bespoke and exclusive, designers felt that everyone deserved to have a beautiful, functional home, regardless of wealth and class. Scandi interiors are often minimalist in feel yet coupled with warm, woody tones and this is to help create a functional living space that also feels homely.

Light is also a key aspect of Scandi style - with long Nordic winters, designers wanted to maximise the daylight within their architecture, and so you'll see large windows and light furnishings in most Scandinavian locations. Calm, fluid shapes and natural colours also add to a sense of peace in Scandinavian-style houses.

These types of spaces make really effective shoot locations. Natural light, minimal decor and neutral colour palettes present properties almost as blank canvases for filmmakers that can be quickly dressed accordingly. Scandinavian style interiors have become increasingly popular due to their stylish yet practical design. Whether it's for a lifestyle or fashion shoot, commercial or TV drama, these shoot spaces make excellent backdrops that are sure to look great on camera.
