An impressive modernist museum with unique and striking architecture.
This stunningly refurbished 1960s building and grade II listed roof offers multiple venues for a range of different events including filming, photography and events. Its unique design makes the perfect backdrop for productions, live broadcasts and commercials.
After standing vacant for over a decade, this site became the home of the museum in 2008, and was transformed by the design team into a building fit for a modern museum. It opened to the public in 2016, and has since been home to exhibitions themed around Ferrari, Stanley Kubrick and more recently, Ai Wei Wei.
The building features an impressive atrium space, as well as a cinema, a library, a variety of office areas, a bar and various exhibition rooms, all with an elegant, timeless quality. The curved roof of the building makes it a particularly spectacular shoot location both inside and out. A feat of engineering, the concrete shell is just 75mm at its thinnest point, and was designed to be supported by only two columns, allowing for uninterrupted views across the central space. Pre-cast concrete beams were used to create the roof’s distinctive radiating pattern. It was one of the first post-war buildings to be listed by English Heritage.
